Throughout the year we want to give you a behind the scenes look at various people and parts of Adelisa & Co., and discount a product that goes along with their story. Last week's Behind The Scenes Feature was about our co-founder, Rachel and we had our Cosecha Mary Janes on sale. Although the code was only valid for the day, we hope you still enjoy getting to know Rachel a bit more and reading about one of her favorite memories since starting Adelisa & Co below. P.S. You can make sure you don't miss out on future Behind the Scenes Sales and still receive 10% off your order by signing up for texts here
Can you tell us a bit about your family/where you live?
I live with my husband Dan and three daughters (Adele, Eleanor and Audrey) in a small beach town in Southwestern Ontario. For the past five years we’ve been renovating an old one room schoolhouse that was built in 1926. We just got it into a liveable state and moved in this past summer!
When you’re not busy running a business, what are some things you like to do?
I love thrift shopping, traveling, playing board games, eating sushi and drinking lemonade!
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
One of my fave brand owners once told me “Keep your head down, don’t worry about others, and just work harder! Take the big risks, it will always pay off.” It took a huge weight off during some difficult times.
What are you currently reading or watching?
Reading: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah (my 2nd time around!) Watching: Jack Ryan (with my husband - maybe wouldn’t be my top choice if I was watching alone but it’s good!)
One of my favorite memories was back in 2017 when we first released our Cosecha Mary Janes. We posted a photo sneak-peaking them and it went somewhat viral. People were messaging us on Instagram asking how many pairs we had, saying that the photo was being shared in lots of different Facebook groups and they knew lots of people who were going to be buying them. I didn’t know how serious to take it but after we released our FW release that night, within 5 minutes our post was blowing up with comments like “SOLD OUT?” “When are you restocking?!” “Can’t believe I missed these! We had sold out of EVERYTHING! At the time shoes were still a casual part of our business and our macrame swings were our best-seller so it was so exciting to see a design we had worked so hard on be so loved. The next 2-3 years were spent trying to catch up to the demand and not selling out at every release as we hated disappointing our customers. Since then, our head artisan Marvin has worked so hard to build up a team of incredible shoemakers in Nicaragua so that we are able to have our products in stock and we don't sell out at each drop. Year after year Cosechas still remain a top seller and we're so excited to offer them in a variety of different colors and women's sizes now too! It's a shoe that holds so much meaning to me as it represents such a time of growth in our business and is a true Adelisa & Co staple now for our customers.
