Today’s Behind The Scenes Feature is about Ivania. Ivania co-owns and helps run our workshop alongside her husband, Marvin (our head artisan), in Nicaragua. We have enjoyed so many great years working together and we're excited to highlight this incredible woman today!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Ivania and I live in Masaya Nicaragua with my husband Marvin, my mom (pictured above) and my son Dierick. I am the youngest of 5 children. My family is from the Las Flores region in northern Masaya, but when I as 6 I moved into the city. I was raised by a single mother and growing up, we had very limited resources. When I turned 15, I started attending night school so I could work during the day. Working all day and studying at night was a very demanding and difficult schedule for me, but I knew I had to help my family. A very big blessing came from it though, because it was there at the school that I met my future husband, Marvin. We studied the same 6:00-9:00pm shift and fell in love. Marvin began to work as a shoe maker and I continued my job in the market for many years. In 2016, we began to partner with Adelisa & Co. and from there our lives changed.
When you're not busy running a business, what are some things you like to do?
I love to go out on weekends and spend quality time with loved ones. I also just love to relax with my family.
What has been a special moment or favourite memory made while running Adelisa & Co.?
A very special moment for me was being able to build our own house a few years ago.
What is your favorite style and why?
My favorite style is the Bella sandal. It's beautiful but also very versatile. I can pair it with lots of different outfits and always feel elegant and beautiful!
What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
If a good opportunity comes to you in life, take it. If it changes your life, let it.
